Aims and objectives

The ESCMID Study Group for Anaerobic Infections (ESGAI) is at the forefront of advancing research and knowledge on anaerobic pathogens. Bringing together an international community of experts, ESGAI is committed to: 

  • Performing innovative fundamental and clinical research to better understand the pathogenicity, clinical manifestations, and antibiotic resistance mechanisms of anaerobic pathogens
  • Providing clinicians with crucial information and updates on diagnosing anaerobic pathogens
  • Supporting early-career scientists and clinicians in their research on anaerobic pathogens
  • Organising conferences and educational workshops to foster knowledge sharing 
  • Cultivating a vibrant and engaging community 
  • Sharing knowledge with the general public
