Diagnosis and treatment of CNS infections

In this course, the attendants will be updated on the epidemiology, clinical presentation, and treatment of CNS infections. The course will cover a wide range of topics from analyses of clinical syndromes and cerebrospinal fluid to management of difficult-to-treat CNS infections and emerging adjunctive immunomodulatory treatments as well as long-term management of sequelae in patients recovering from CNS infections.

Intended audience: 

All clinicians providing care for patients with CNS infections as well as researchers within the field

Objectives:

  • To demonstrate an overview of the epidemiology of CNS infections.
  • To foster an improved capability of recognizing the clinical presentation of CNS infections.
  • To correctly interpret cerebrospinal fluid analyses and use a rational diagnostic work-up of patients with suspected CNS infections.
  • To provide the most up-to-date antimicrobial and adjunctive treatment of CNS infections.
  • To create an overview of long-term complications of CNS infections and how they can be managed.
