With the increasing complexity and invasiveness of health care procedures, executed in non-classical scenarios, along with a population with more demanding needs, patient safety is an unavoidable and indispensable aspect in the current reality. In this regard, health professionals, who are key players in health care delivery, must be prepared to risk prevention and control, through their identification, communication and management. This course aims to provide tools to health professionals in this area. 

Intended audience: 

Medical doctors and pharmacists, nurses or other healthcare professionals with an MSc or PhD are eligible, provided they completed the basic module or have experience in IPC 

Objectives: 

  • Understand Patient Safety: 
    • Define patient safety and its importance. 
    • Identify key factors contributing to patient safety concerns. 
  • Develop Risk Identification and Communication Skills: 
    • Learn to identify and communicate patient safety risks effectively. 
    • Practice clear communication within healthcare teams. 
  • Implement Risk Management Strategies: 
    • Explore evidence-based approaches to managing patient safety risks. 
    • Understand regulatory requirements for patient safety. 
  • Foster Interprofessional Collaboration: 
    • Promote teamwork and problem-solving among healthcare providers. 
    • Encourage interdisciplinary collaboration in patient safety. 
  • Utilize Tools for Improvement: 
    • Familiarize with tools and resources for enhancing patient safety. 
    • Learn to use data analytics for monitoring patient safety outcomes. 
  • Cultivate a Culture of Patient Safety: 
    • Understand the role of organizational culture in patient safety.
    • Identify strategies for fostering a culture of safety within healthcare organizations.

Course organisers will monitor attendance. Only participants attending live sessions will be able to receive the certification.
