EUCIC
Molecular and bioinformatics tools for infection control

Event Description

11 - 13 October 2023
Bucharest, Romania
Onsite

In this course, we will delve into the integration of molecular diagnostic and epidemiology techniques to enhance decision-making in infection control (IC) and antibiotic stewardship.

Intended audience:

Objectives:

  • Describe the advantages and limits of integrating molecular diagnostic and epidemiology techniques in IC decision making
  • Understand the complementarity between classic and molecular laboratory tools
  • Understand the molecular diagnostic technologies (PCR, 16S/shotgun metagenomics, Whole Genome Sequencing)
  • Be familiar with main bioinformatics resources (databases and tools) • Understand basic principles behind most common bioinformatics methods
  • Use bioinformatics resources for species prediction, ST and MLST predictions, antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs), biocide resistance genes and virulence factors, epidemiological surveillance, virulence and transmisibility prediction
