AMS
The Structure and Position of AMS and Antimicrobial Stewardship Aspect of Management of Infections

Event Description

09 - 10 November 2023
Ljubljana, Slovenia
Onsite

The management of infections & sepsis in the immune-compromised host is challenging in many ways: delayed diagnosis, atypical presentation, metabolic changes, adjuvant therapies, severe prognosis, and end-of-life decisions. Sepsis is a common and mortal syndrome, and the incidence is increasing. On the other hand, mortality increases with pre-existing immunosuppression. Moreover, in the last decade, the immunosuppressed patient population and expected life is rising which exacerbated the issue. In low to middle-income countries, the infrastructure of hospitals makes the problem more complex. There is scarce information in the literature about the presentation and outcomes of sepsis in immunocompromised oncology patients with personalised management. Newer risk groups, associated with therapies (CAR-T) or older adults (immune-senescence) require specific attention. The new concept of pneumonia in the immunocompromised host provided an innovative management approach. An update of hot innovative topics with an approach led by international multidisciplinary experts will be provided.
