Aims and objectives
The Study Group aims at bringing together a multidisciplinary and international network of experts to develop the understanding, prevention and management of infections affecting pregnant women, the foetus, neonates, children and adolescents.
Its main objectives are to:
- Enhance visibility and reach in maternal and child health, a growing global priority within an expanding ESCMID
- Foster interdisciplinary and international collaboration between all disciplines involved in the field.
- Advance research and knowledge on infections across the maternal – foetal -neonatal - paediatric continuum.
- Promote education and training in this field, building upon European initiatives, developing training resources and supporting the dissemination of best practices.
- Develop ESCMID-endorsed guidelines and recommendations and contribute in the field of maternal perinatal and paediatric infections.
- Address key challenges in vaccination, including immunization strategies during pregnancy and childhood, as well as vaccine hesitancy.
- Support early-career clinicians and researchers working in the field of maternal, fetal, neonatal and pediatric infections.
- Enhance public awareness and health literacy, emphasizing the burden of these infections and the importance of preventive strategies, including vaccination.
- Collaborate with other ESCMID Study Groups to address unmet needs and knowledge gaps.
