Short summary of skills, experience and career objective
I am a researcher combining a solid background in Biology with advanced expertise in Bioinformatics and Biostatistics (M.Sc., 2024). I obtained my Ph.D. in Biomedicine and Biotechnology from the University of Valencia (2021) with Highest Honors (cum laude) and International Distinction, supported by a competitive FPI predoctoral fellowship from the Spanish Ministry of Science. My trajectory reflects a deliberate effort to bridge the gap between experimental benchwork and complex data science to solve public health challenges.
Research Lines & Scientific Contributions:
My research sits at the intersection of microbial genomics, bioinformatic analysis, and public health, focusing on the genomic epidemiology and evolutionary dynamics of bacterial pathogens and antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Over my career, I have focused my contributions across three high-impact areas:
1) Genomic Epidemiology & Public Health:
I have applied high-throughput sequencing to resolve complex clinical scenarios. This includes investigating multi-hospital Serratia marcescens outbreaks in neonatal ICUs (highlighting the critical importance of reference genome selection), tracking Neisseria gonorrhoeae populations, ando providing high-precision genomic evidence for a sensitive forensic case.
2) Metagenomics & Microbiome:
I extended my expertise into clinical metagenomics and the human gut microbiome during my postdoctoral stage at IATA-CSIC, analyzing complex microbial communities and their functional profiles.
3) Environmental AMR Surveillance:
In my most recent postdoctoral role at the University of Valencia, I led the bioinformatic and metagenomic characterization of wastewater to monitor the environmental dissemination of AMR determinants and clinically relevant pathogens before they reach the clinic.
Internationalization & Collaboration:
I have developed a strong collaborative profile, highlighted by a 3-month research stay at the University of Zurich (Switzerland) under Prof. Verena Schueneman and Dr. Natasha Arora. There, I specialized in advanced targeted DNA enrichment methodologies for intracellular pathogens (Chlamydia trachomatis). Throughout my career, I have actively collaborated on 6 major national and international research projects (including MICINN, Prometeo and European Horizon2020/ERC frameworks), contributing to the development of cutting-edge genomic epidemiology methodologies.
Teaching & Mentorship:
Commited to knowledge transfer and academic growth, I have accumulated over 100 hours of formal teaching experience. This includes lecturing in Genetics and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Valencia (82 hours) and delivering specialized seminars at the FISABIO Summer School (19 hours). Furthermore, during my predoctoral stage, I have actively mentored and co-supervised several undergraduate and graduate students, as well as incoming researchers, fostering their technical autonomy in both wet-lab and bioinformatic workflows.
Technical & Methodological Expertise:
I possess extensive hands-on experience in Biosafety Level 2+/3 laboratories, molecular biology diagnostics (qPCR, Sanger), next-generation sequencing (NGS) workflows, and advanced bioinformatics pipelines for genomics, metagenomics, and biostatistics.
Career objective:
I am looking for a postdoc or bioinformatician position within my area of expertise. Due to personal reasons I am geographically restricted to Valencia, Spain, with possibility of traveling occasionally, so I am looking for a Valencian group or a place that accept fully remote candidates.
