Work experience
Postdoctoral Researcher Sep 2024 – Present
City University of Hong Kong, Dept. of Infectious Diseases & Public Health | Hong Kong
• Lead global microbial genomics studies on methicillin-resistant Staphylococci in livestock and companion animals, generating datasets used for cross-institutional AMR surveillance comparisons.
• Characterize taxonomy and resistance patterns of Acinetobacter spp. across companion, exotic, and livestock animal species using genomic and phenotypic methods.
• Apply genomics-based methods to support development of a potential probiotic for mitigating Streptococcus equi infections in horses.
• Run whole-genome and metagenomic sequencing on the Oxford Nanopore PromethION platform end-to-end, from sample prep through downstream bioinformatic analysis.
• Mentor Master and PhD students on lab technique, experimental design, and manuscript preparation.
• Established and manage a BSL-2 microbial genomics laboratory, including equipment, protocols, and compliance.
• Represent the lab as host scientist for STEM outreach programs with prospective veterinary students.
Researcher Apr 2022 – Mar 2023
Chulalongkorn University, Faculty of Veterinary Science, Dept. of Microbiology | Bangkok, Thailand
• Detected Enterotoxigenic E. coli (ETEC) toxin genes in post-vaccine-trial samples from commercial swine farms, supporting vaccine efficacy assessment.
• Designed and executed a One Health surveillance program tracking antimicrobial-resistant E. coli across swine, farm workers, and farm environments under varying antibiotic regimens.
• Investigated evolutionary adaptation of resistant bacterial populations following withdrawal of antibiotic selective pressure, informing antibiotic stewardship discussions.
• Presented findings at academic and industry-adjacent conferences.
Lead Scientist — Industry-Sponsored Project Oct 2021 – Oct 2022
Chulalongkorn University, Faculty of Veterinary Science, Dept. of Microbiology | Bangkok, Thailand
• Delivered a contract research project for Elanco and Zoetis (Thailand) evaluating ETEC detection and Halquinol antimicrobial susceptibility following an ETEC vaccine trial.
• Processed swine fecal samples and identified bacterial isolates using MALDI-TOF.
• Detected ETEC by PCR and ran Halquinol susceptibility testing via disc diffusion and agar dilution MIC assays.
• Authored and delivered technical reports directly to sponsoring companies, translating lab results into client-ready findings.
Research Assistant Jan 2018 – Jul 2018
Kasetsart University, Faculty of Veterinary Technology | Bangkok, Thailand
• Ran a blood-sampling and tick-prevention vaccination program at Thailand's largest dog shelter (Uthai Thani Province).
• Performed ELISA testing to compare pre/post-vaccination antibody titers.
• Coordinated sample storage, task allocation, and cross-team workflow as part of project leadership.
