This 2-day interactive course provides a comprehensive view of the basic concepts of surveillance of infectious diseases and a European perspective on infection prevention and control, including hands-on experience on practical issues. It is structured to support knowledge and competence building through interactive lectures, experiential learning, practical sessions, and hands-on training.

Intended audience:

Medical doctors (e.g., trainees/residents and specialists in Infectious Diseases, Microbiology, Internal Medicine, Public Health) pharmacists, nurses, other healthcare professionals, who are interested in infection prevention and control or have completed the basic module.

Objectives:

  • Key surveillance principles and structures, including data interpretation, management resources and surveillance networks
  • Knowledge, perspectives and attitudes of patients and healthcare professionals
  • Cultural, structural and social determinants in infection prevention and control
  • One Health, Global health and novel concepts in infection prevention and control
  • The importance of diagnostics in optimizing management and prevention measures
  • Association between antimicrobial stewardship and infection prevention and control
  • The daily activities of a hospital infection control team
  • National, regional and international epidemiology of communicable diseases, antimicrobial resistance, antimicrobial consumption

Accreditation: 

ESCMID office will apply for EACCME accreditation. 
Participants must complete the course evaluation to be eligible to receive their CME credits.

Certification: 

Course organisers will monitor attendance. Participants are required to attend at least 70% of live sessions to be eligible to receive a certificate.
