Robert Bonomo will be given his award during the ECCMID 2016 in Amsterdam on Sunday 10 April 2016 at 14.30. After the award ceremony, he will give a keynote talk on his area of research.

Overview of academic and research activities: Dr Bonomo’s investigative activities include susceptibility testing, genetics and mutagenesis, genomics, molecular epidemiology, protein engineering, steady and pre-steady state kinetics, drug discovery, structural biology/X-ray crystallography, spectroscopy and proteomics. He did this work in collaboration with many colleagues at Case Western Reserve University (Drs Krisztina Papp-Wallace and Focco van den Akker) and at other institutions nationally and internationally. He has also collaborated with industry and academic labs (Dr John Buynak, Southern Methodist University, Dr Fabio Prati and Emilia Caselli of the University of Modena, Modena, Italy, and Dr. Alejandro Vila, HHMI International Scholar and Guggenheim Fellow, University of Rosario, Argentina, Dr. James Spencer, University of Bristol, Bristol, UK) in the pursuit of novel beta-lactamase inhibitors. In the past two decades he has established industrial partnerships with Wyeth, Pfizer, Basilea, AstraZeneca, Merck, Abbott, CheckPoints among others and have been part of the efforts to introduce 5 new drugs to the clinic.
