Healthcare Associated Infections: from theoretical bases through training and motivation to the development of a control programme

Even among those engaged in the fight against Healthcare Associated Infections (HAI), having a clear understanding of the distance between theoretical knowledge and clinical and care practice is challenging. An example: we know everything about the importance of hand hygiene, but when we look at its application in real practice we are satisfied if it is carried out almost half of times it should be done. So, we asked ourselves if it was important to promote initiatives to give knowledge, to promote behaviour change, to organize the surveillance, prevention and control interventions of HAI.The course that we propose, to be really meaningful for the healthcare personnel who will take part in it, will not be purely theoretical, but practical. Not a seminar or a series of dry lectures, but an interactive, engaging meeting, co-constructed with all the participants, using interactive methods.

The
coursewouldlike to spread the culture and the knowledge of HAI and of Anti-Microbial Resistance (AMR) by education and motivation to obtain a behavior change with a comprehensive vision of prevention, surveillance and control activities. The participants will know the international and Italian epidemiology of MDR bacteria and the laws and guide-lines to control AMR spread. The participants will learn to implement infection control procedures from hand hygiene to surveillance of MDR bacteria and HAI.
