Targeted infection prevention and control (IPC) measures:
Curricular training for hospital hygiene

Module objectives

• Describe hygiene measures to control multi drug resistant pathogens (MDRO), taking into consideration up-to-date scientific research
• Interpreting of surveillance data of nosocomial infections and development of preventive strategies
during patient care
• Understand the preconditions for the prevention of common nosocomial infections
• Feed-back of surveillance data and collaboration with clinical departments to develop and implement IPC-measures
• Interdisciplinary Training of IPC-approaches (clinical staff e.g. nurses, physicians, physiotherapists
etc.)
• Importance of a management system for anti-infective drugs

The role of the clinical laboratory in preventing nosocomial infections due to MDR Gram-negative pathogens: a theoretical and practical approach

This 3-day module will offer up-to-date knowledge in:

•  Epidemiology of MDR Gram-negative pathogens

•  Phenotypical and molecular microbial methods for the detection of MDR Gram-negative pathogens

•  Diagnostic stewardship

The course will focus on detecting resistance  mechanisms of MDR Gram-negative pathogens against antimicrobials such as expanded-spectrum cephalosporins, carbapenems and polymyxins.

Lectures will be complemented by practical lab demonstrations for learning different diagnostic techniques for rapid detection of MDR bacteria in clinical microbiology. At the end of the module, the participants will have gained valuable knowledge and skills that can be immediately transferred to healthcare facilities and used for the benefit of hospitalized patients.
