Management of “pandemic” MDROs: is it still simple and feasible?
We asked ourselves if it was not the case to promote initiatives to give knowledge, to promote behaviour change, to organize the surveillance, prevention and control interventions of HAI. The course that we propose, to be really meaningful for the operators who will take part in it, will not be purely theoretical but interactive. The course would like to spread the culture and the knowledge about Healthcare Associated Infections prevention and control and of MDROs detection and therapies by education and
motivation to obtain a behavior change with a comprehensive vision of prevention, surveillance, control of infections and therapies. The participants will learn about the international and Italian epidemiology of MDROs and about the laws and guide-lines to control MDROs spread comparing different international experiences. The participants will be able to implement infection control procedures from hand hygiene to surveillance of MDROs and HAI and to apply stewardship programs.

Improving antibiotic prescription and infection control in the emergency room
Emergency Rooms (ERs) are a challenging environment: time is scarce, the workload too high and the composition of medical teams constantly changing. As a significant number of ER admitted patients are infected, awareness and expertise on antibiotic prescription and infection control is paramount: Typically, ERs are the first place for antimicrobial decision, where medical teams need to be able to rapidly detect severe cases and start administering adequate antimicrobial therapy in a timely fashion. Also after ER admission, when patients are transferred to the wards, the continuity of the prescribed therapy needs to be ensured to increase the chances of successful treatment. In addition, ERs are the central place for screening and isolation of infected patients before they are moved to the wards, so that the safety of other patients and healthcare workers can be guaranteed.
This one-day course aimed to improve practices on diagnosis, antimicrobial treatment and screening of patients in the ER as well as their isolation if need be. It included hands-on sessions and simulations to anchor the learned principles.
The workshop was co-organized by Hospital Beatriz Ângelo (LearningHealth Luz Saúde), Portugal and Hospital La Paz, Spain.

Multidrug-Resistant (MDR) Gram-negative infections in Mediterranean hospitals: Know them, prevent them, and beat them!
Infections caused by Multidrug-resistant Gram-negative bacteria (MDR GNB) have been increasing in Mediterranean countries in the last years. Several efforts should be done in order to reduce their selection and dissemination. Education in microbiology, epidemiology, infection control and antimicrobial therapy is needed for professionals managing this concerning issue.
Objectives:
- To learn the main mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance in Gram-negatives
- To review the current epidemiology of MDR GNB in Europe
- To update the evidence about the current infection control measures for these microorganisms
- To review the current therapeutic options for MDR GNB infections

4. Engage the appropriate personnel to manage an outbreak scenario
5. Communicate effectively with colleagues, healthcare management, patients and the public during an outbreak
6. Choose and implement the appropriate infection prevention and control measures to manage an outbreak
7. Design the appropriate templates and documents used to communicate data with colleagues and the public, as part of outbreak management
