• To be introduced to basic methods of data analysis, use of data management resources and fundamental principles of reporting and communicating surveillance data.
• To appreciate the aims, objectives and methodology of Point Prevalence Surveys (PPS)
• To identify effective ways of comparing surveillance data across institutions/settings and disseminating results to healthcare professionals and policymakers at local, national and European levels.
• To enable planning, implementation and conduct of a standardized PPS in its own hospital setting. Moreover, the course will be complemented by practical lab demonstrations for learning about different diagnostic techniques for rthe apid identification of MDR bacteria and fungi in clinical microbiology.
