ESGBIES Executive Committee election results
The ESGBIES Executive Committee elections have concluded and the following members have been elected for the term of 2023-2025:

- Laura Escolà-Vergé, Spain
- Siegbert Rieg, Germany
The new Executive Committee will take office during the ESGBIES meeting at ECCMID this year.
We thank all previous Executive Committee members for their excellent work over the last years and are looking forward to continuing this work.

2020 Annual Report Published

New Executive Committee takes office
June 5, 2019
ESGBIES has a new executive committee composed of:
- Prof. Winfried V. Kern, Germany
- Prof. Maddalena Giannella, Italy
- Prof. Willem Joost Wiersinga, Netherlands
- Dr Brigitte Lamy, France
- Prof. Jordi Rello, Spain
Luigia Scudeller and Matthias Zaccarin as members of the election committee invited the membership to nominate candidates and vote. At the first round of elections, two candidates from France obtained the same number of votes, then a run-off ballot was organised. The results of the elections are the following:
- Number of members with voting right: 119
- Number of voters (1st round): 43 (36.1%)
- Number of voters (run-off): 28 (23.5 %)

- Maddalena Giannella, Italy 27 votes, elected
- Willem Joost Wiersinga, The Netherlands 22 votes, elected
- Brigitte Lamy, France 20/17 votes, elected

The new executive committee is elected for two years.
ESCMID Postgraduate Education Course

Update on Endocarditis and Endovascular Infections
Co-organised by ESGBIES, ESGIAI and ESGS
20 – 23 March 2018, Münster, Germany
Course Objectives: to provide to postgraduate microbiologists and infectious disease physicians an updated overview of: the pathogenesis of intravascular infections including infective endocarditis (IE) and cardiovascular implantable; electronic device (CIED) infections caused especially by staphylococci and some other pathogens (e.g. Coxiella burnetii); epidemiology; improvement of diagnostic clinical and microbiological procedures; the best imaging techniques for IE and blood stream infections; optimized antimicrobial therapy; antibiotic prophylaxis for IE; choosing the right animal model for research.

ESCMID Postgraduate Education Course

Better Methods for Clinical Studies in Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology: a Hands-on Workshop
Co-organised by ESGBIES, ESGIE and TAE
7 – 9 November 2018, Seville, spain
Perfect methods in designing and performing randomized controlled trials, observational studies and systematic reviews/meta-analyses allow us to draw recommendations for better treatment of our patients. The purpose of the workshop is to provide the participants with tools on how to phrase a research question, choose the appropriate design and methods to address it, avoid biases, and write an optimal report. The morning will be dedicated to lectures from well -known experts in the field, divided into two tracks. In the afternoon we will hold interactive workshops, in which the participants will present their protocol or analysis of a research project. These will be commented on by faculty members and participants, and then will be open for discussion. The participants’ protocols will be sent beforehand to the commentators for written comments
