New ESCMID/ESGCD guidance on the treatment for Clostridioides difficile infection in adults

In 2009, the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID) published the first treatment guidance document for Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI). The growing literature on CDI antimicrobial treatment and novel treatment approaches, such as faecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) and toxin-binding monoclonal antibodies, prompted the ESCMID study group on C. difficile (ESGCD) to update the 2014 treatment guidance document for CDI in adults.

Now the ESCMID: 2021 update on the treatment guidance document for Clostridioides difficile infection in adults as just been published and now available here.

C. difficile culture collection

The ESGCD culture collection of C. difficile is based in the Anaerobe Reference Laboratory at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, UK. Cultures are kept on beads at -80 degrees Celsius. Colleagues wishing to deposit isolates should apply to Dr. J.S. Brazier via email.

The collection is meant for collaborative study purposes and to act as a bank of European isolates representing those strains causing infections across Europe.
