Mission & Objectives

ESGBOR was first inaugurated at the 12th International Conference on Lyme Borreliosis and other Tick-Borne Diseases, 28 September 2010 in Ljubljana, Slovenia, and officially established at the ECCMID/ICC 2011 in Milan, Italy.

ESGBOR will provide a pan-European information resource for Lyme borreliosis (LB) based on the network of physicians and scientists that was established during an EU-funded Concerted Action (EUCALB) and which has continued to function in an advisory capacity for the EUCALB website. ESGBOR will review diagnostic and treatment guidelines for LB, facilitate research, organise thematic meetings and maintain the website as an information resource for health professionals. The coverage of the website has now been extended to include tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) and zoonotic babesiosis (ZB), since the infective agents of these diseases share the same vector as LB spirochaetes. The study group’s activities will be largely based on the updating and expansion of this information resource, supported by seminars and workshops.
