Young Investigator Awards for Research in Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases

In 2019, ESCMID will again offer up to two ESCMID Young Investigator Awards for research in clinical microbiology and infectious diseases to recognize outstanding research by younger colleagues in these fields.

Purpose

The Young Investigator Award acknowledges excellence in research and stimulates further work at a top scientific level. The ESCMID Scientific Affairs Officer will present the award at the 29th ECCMID (Amsterdam, Netherlands, 13-16 April 2019).

Eligibility criteria

Nominees for the award should be born on or after 1 January 1979. Appropriate research may be based on laboratory investigations, clinical trials, animal studies, or a combination thereof. Nominees must have a valid Full or Young Scientist ESCMID membership. Members of the ESCMID Executive Committee are not eligible. Self-applications are not accepted.

What you need for the nomination

All documentation is to be submitted electronically. When submitting, please have the following documentation ready and make sure you have uploaded the correct documents. You cannot make any changes to any part of your nomination once the deadline has expired.

APPLICATION DOCUMENTS

  • One PDF file (NomineeSurname.pdf, max. 4MB) including documents in the following order:

    • 1) CV and proof of the nominee's age;
    • 2) Complete list of publications, in which up to five publications over the last three years should be highlighted (in bold) to exemplify the nominee’s excellent work;
    • 3) Description of the candidate, her/his career, her/his research interests and personal contributions to the various research projects she or he has been participating in.

  • Two letters of support from individuals outside the nominating institution (Supporter1Surname_support1.pdf and Supporter2Surname_support2.pdf, max. 4MB).
  • A colour photograph of at least 4 x 6 cm with 300 dpi resolution for publication (NomineeSurname_NomineeFirstname.tiff, .eps or .jpg, max. 4MB).

Presentation and announcement of the award

During the 29th ECCMID, the Young Investigator Awardee(s) will be honoured with a special session. Each awardee will be asked to give a 20-minute lecture on the topic of their main field of research. The award winners will be announced through all ESCMID communication channels. The prize is endowed with EUR 5,000 to be used at the awardees’ discretion.

Online nomination for Young Investigator Award

Nominations for 2019 will be accepted until 11 October 2018, 12.00h noon CET. Only online submissions will be accepted.

The ESCMID Executive Committee will select the awardees who will be notified latest in January 2019. Please refrain from inquiring on the status of your nomination before this date. Self-applications will not be considered.
