Young Investigator Awards for Research in Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases 2022
In 2023, ESCMID will now offer up to four ESCMID Young Investigator Awards for research in clinical microbiology (CM) and infectious diseases (ID) to recognize outstanding research by younger colleagues in these fields.
The call to apply for the Young Investigator Awards for Research in Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases 2023 will officially open on the 17th of August 2022 with the deadline for submitting your applications on the 12th of October 2022, 17:00 CEST.
Purpose
The Young Investigator Award acknowledges excellence in research and stimulates further work at a top scientific level. The ESCMID Scientific Affairs Officer will present the award at ECCMID 2023.
Eligibility criteria
ESCMID accepts only self-nominations for the award.
- Your research is be based on laboratory investigations, clinical trials/studies, animal studies, or a combination thereof.
- You have a valid ESCMID membership.
- If you are PhD you must be no longer than eight years* post-graduation
- If you are MD or MD/PhD you must be no longer that five years* from completion of clinical training.
*This time excludes one year of maternity leave for women, time of paternity leave for men for each child, and health-related leave if applicable
Application Process
The application process will consist of an online CV template form to be filled out electronically during the window for application. No late alterations or submissions will be accepted.
You will need to complete the following items for the application process:
- 1) Online CV Template (incl. Personal statement, description of research interests and projects, list of top publications with 3 first author publications, etc.)
- 2) Proof of degree (to be uploaded)
- 3) A colour photograph (labelled “YourSurname_Firstname”.tiff, .eps or .jpg; max. 4MB) at least 4 x 6 cm with 300 dpi resolution for publication
Presentation and announcement of the award
During ECCMID 2023, the Young Investigator Awardee(s) will be honoured with a special session. Each awardee will be asked to give a 15- to 20-minute lecture on the topic of their main field of research. The award winners will be announced through all ESCMID communication channels. The prize is endowed with EUR 5,000 to be used to any form of professional development (purchase of books, educational materials, attendance in congresses or training, etc). ESCMID will request a final report of the spending and follow up with the awardee after two years.

Only online applications will be accepted.
The ESCMID Executive Committee will select the awardees who will be notified latest in January 2023. Please refrain from inquiring on the status of your nomination before this date.
