His research interests include innate immunity, sepsis and bacterial and fungal infections in critically ill and ICU patients as well as immunocompromised hosts. He will hold his keynote lecture Sepsis: making progress, but not yet there! at ECCMID 2017 on Sunday, 23 April 2017 at 14:30.

This award recognizes and rewards an outstanding lifetime contribution in the areas of science, education or professional affairs in clinical microbiology and/or infectious diseases.

Eligibility criteria

Nominees for the award must be senior scientists who are professionally active and prepared to give a keynote lecture during the upcoming ECCMID. Members of the ESCMID Executive Committee are ineligible during their term of office and for 2 years thereafter.
