ESCMID funded Observerships
Observerships call in Autumn 2023 is now closed!
Observers will be notified by middle of December regarding the outcome of their application.
The new call for 50 funded observerships will be opened from 12 September 2023 to 18 October 2023. First visits of observers to ECCs are envisioned to happen from Spring 2024.
Eligibility criteria
- Must be an ESCMID Young Scientist Member or LMIC member fulfilling the criteria of Young Scientist Membership
- May only apply to one of the active ESCMID Collaborative Centres (ECCs) per application period
- No previous ESCMID Observership visit within the last 12 months prior to the application deadline
- Observers from outside Europe may only apply for a funded observership at a European ECC
- Observers from Europe may apply to any ECC from the list, except to ECCs in their own country: only out-of-country visits are allowed for funded observerships
- Must agree on a clear purpose of the visit with the ECC endorsement letter (on their letter-headed paper) before applying. ECC should confirm both, the purpose and dates in the application
- Applicants who require a visa to visit the ECC country must take this into consideration when applying and must choose dates that provide enough time to obtain a visa before the intended visit. ESCMID nor the ECC can guarantee flexibility in changing visit dates should a visa take longer. It is the applicant`s responsibility to ensure that there is enough time to organise their travel and visa (if applicable) before the planned visit.
- Must include a letter of support from their supervisor/mentor showing how his/her institute would benefit from the learnings gained during the observership
- Must receive official approval from ESCMID and meet the necessary requirements post-visit in order to be reimbursed
