WHONET is a free software for the surveillance and containment of infectious diseases and antimicrobial resistance.
WHONET is developed by the WHO Collaborating Centre for Surveillance of Antimicrobial Resistance (Boston, United States). It is used widely (>130 countries, >9,000 healthcare, public health and academic institutions) for the management and analysis of laboratory data to support local, national, and global activities to understand and fight infectious diseases, with a special focus on antimicrobial resistance in the human, animal, food, and environmental sectors. A current overview of the global use of WHONET for AMR surveillance can be found here.
WHONET permits the entry, integration, analysis, reporting, and sharing of data from microbiology laboratories to support:
This full-day workshop provides a structured introduction to WHONET and the BacLink tool. Through a series of guided, hands-on sessions, participants gain experience with entering, integrating, analyzing, reporting, and sharing of data from microbiology laboratories.
The workshop is designed for all healthcare and public health professionals involved in clinical microbiology, infectious diseases, infection prevention and control, antimicrobial resistance surveillance, and antimicrobial stewardship, including, but not limited to clinical microbiologists, laboratory scientists, infectious disease specialists, clinical pharmacists, infection prevention and control professionals, epidemiologists, and laboratory IT and data managers.
Participants leave with an improved understanding of how microbiology laboratory data can be utilized for microbiology and infection science, antibiotic stewardship, infection control, and public health surveillance, with the confidence to begin exploring these approaches within their own work.
Instructor: Dr. med. Jens Thomsen MPH MSc MBA (Medics Labor AG, Bern, Switzerland)
