Aims and objectives

The ESCMID Study Group for Infections in the Elderly (ESGIE) aims to promote the multidisciplinary management of infections in the elderly, focusing on producing multicentre data on the epidemiology, clinical presentations, therapeutic management, and prevention. We are committed to enhancing care in this vulnerable population through:

  • Studying the pharmacological parameters of antimicrobial agents influenced by age-related metabolism
  • Analysing the effectiveness of measures aimed at reducing spread of infections among the elderly, particularly in long-term care facilities and nursing homes
  • Collaborating with other international organisations focused on the elderly population in multidisciplinary initiatives
