Mission & Objectives

The ESCMID Study Group for Mycoplasma and Chlamydia Infections (ESGMAC) is a group of physicians and scientists who aim to study and understand the clinical presentation, and the epidemiology (including development of antimicrobial resistance) of Mycoplasma, Ureaplasma, Chlamydia and Chlamydophila infections in humans as well as to improve diagnosis, treatment, control and prevention. This is achieved by promoting and supporting international research activities, education, training, and good medical practice.

Furthermore, ESGMAC will complement and enhance activities with relevant international scientific societies such as the International Organization for Mycoplasmology (IOM), the European Society for Chlamydia research (ESCR) and the European Society for Chlamydioses, Coxiellosis, Anaplasmosis, Rickettsioses and Bartonellosis (ESCCAR). IOM is a non-profit scientific society that aims at promoting the co-operative international study of mycoplasmas and mycoplasmal diseases (humans, animals and plants) and to disseminate knowledge about their characteristics, effects, transmission, and control. ESCR and ESCCAR are both European based organizations aiming at promoting knowledge on Chlamydia and other intracellular pathogens.
