Mission & Objectives
The ESCMID Study Group for Mycoplasma Infections (ESGMI) is a group of scientists who aim to study and improve the diagnosis, treatment, control and prevention of Mycoplasma and Ureaplasma spp. infections in humans. This is achieved by promoting and supporting research, education, training, and good medical practice.
Furthermore, ESGMI will complement and enhance the international scientific society for mycoplasmas, named, the International Organization for Mycoplasmology (IOM). IOM is a non-profit scientific society that aims at promoting the co-operative international study of mycoplasmas and mycoplasmal diseases (humans, animals and plants) and to disseminate knowledge about their characteristics, effects, transmission, and control. ESGMI will further complement and enhance the International Research Programme in Comparative Mycoplasmology (IRPCM). IRPCM is a permanent standing subcommittee of the IOM. IRPCM is a collaborative effort to distribute taxonomic information, protocols, methods, and reagents among international researchers in mycoplasmology.
