Call for doctors interested in the control of the new Ebola outbreak in the Congo
The ESCMID Emerging Infections Task Force has been asked by the WHO to circulate this call for volunteers:
GOARN, the WHO Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network, is requesting qualified volunteers in specified fields for a minimum of 6 weeks to assist in the outbreak response to the newly confirmed Ebola outbreak.
If you are interested and available, please contact EITaF for additional information and please send us an updated CV, and dates of availability and we will forward your information to the WHO.
Be aware that the current outbreak is in an area of serious civil unrest with armed conflict which adds to the risks. The area has limited access to electricity, connectivity and running water. As per the GOARN request, accepted volunteers will receive travel and per diem.
The following areas of expertise may be sought to further strengthen the response over the next 3 months:
- Border health
- Case management
- Coordination
- Epidemiology and surveillance
- Health technical expertise
- Infection, prevention and control
- Laboratory
- Media and communications
- Operational research
- Risk communications
- Social anthropology
- WASH
Fluency in spoken and written French is a necessity for deployment to affected areas.
