Module A: Healthcare-associated Infection Prevention and Management Core Module


This module represents the core of the course that teaches what healthcare-associated infections are and how they can be prevented or contained in acute and longterm care settings.

It provides solid state-of-the-art lectures, hands-on exercises, case-oriented classes, self-training and interactive problem sessions.

Objectives:

  • Describe the background and challenges of healthcare-associated infections and define precise objectives for healthcare-associated infection control
  • Teach the major methodological techniques for infection control epidemiology
  • Provide models and techniques for the set-up of the infection control team as a professional business unit in a non-profit healthcare environment
  • Provide the infection control team with strategies in order to optimise resources and focus on improvement of quality and patient outcome
  • Teach the participants about the structure and organisation models of infection control on the institutional, regional, national and international level
  • Review and evaluate methods for the management and control of healthcare-related pathogens
  • Teach at state-of-the-art level the predominating types of healthcare-associated infections like catheter-related bloodstream infections, ventilatorassociated pneumonia and surgical site infections, and develop the students’ ability to implement specific containment and prevention strategies

You should attend if you are:

  • a physician / nurse / technician with future or actual responsibility in control programmes of healthcare-related infections
  • seeking a theoretical and practical training in order to prepare for the job; an experienced infection control practitioner seeking to evaluate your professional priorities and those of your team

Module B: Applied Infection Control Module


Objective:

To provide in-depth training on the epidemiology and prevention of a limited number of healthcare-related infections. The focus will be on the application of the theoretical background in clinical practice. At the end of the training, participants will be able to deal with infection control issues in their own institutes.

  • Antimicrobial stewardship
  • Epidemiology and control of multi-resistant Gram-negative bacteria
  • Epidemiology and control of MRSA
  • Epidemiology and control of Clostridium difficile & norovirus
  • Influencing healthcare workers to improve compliance in infection control
  • Human factors engineering & infection control
  • Device-related infections
  • Role of environment in infection control

You should attend if you are:

  • a physician working in the field of clinical microbiology, infectious diseases or a related medical specialty or an infection control practitioner and
  • if you have several years of experience in the field of healthcare-related infection control

Cancellation Terms
If a participant cancels his / her registration up to 4 weeks before the beginning of the event, the participation fee will be reimbursed in full. For cancellations made until 14 days before the event we reserve the right to charge half the participation fee. Registrants will be charged the full participation fee if they cancel after 13 October 2014 or do not attend.
