Course Objectives
  • To identify sources of data and understand how to measure antimicrobial use
  • To select a proper measurement unit for antimicrobial consumption
  • To make sense of antimicrobial use and resistance data, both locally and within a multicentre setting
  • To choose and apply a method to study the relationship between antimicrobial prescribing and resistance
  • To choose and apply an audit methodology for monitoring antimicrobial prescriptions
  • To identify the steps and sources for evidence based guideline development
  • To identify barriers encountered in Antimicrobial Stewardship programs and how to overcome them
  • To make sense of interpersonal aspects of implementing change
  • To identify and implement possible interventions to improve antimicrobial prescribing
  • To build national and international support for Antimicrobial Stewardship programs
  • To select a proper method to study the effect of interventions in hospitals

How to get to the Course Venue

 

Target Audience

70 - 100 medical doctors, scientists and clinical pharmacists, involved in antimicrobial stewardship activities with the need to measure, audit and improve antimicrobial prescribing in their institution. The course will have sessions at an advanced level in parallel with sessions at a basic level.

 

Course Levels

Basic module (group 1): Junior staff members are strongly encouraged to apply for an ESCMID attendance grant. Advanced module (group 2): Former participants who are still active in the field are invited.

 
 
Registration Fee

EUR 400for ESCMID members

EUR 450 for all others

The fee includes the scientific sessions, printed course material, all meals, transfer to the course hotel and single room accommodation at the course hotel for two nights (8 and 9 April 2010). It does not include travel from home to Vienna and return.

  

CME Accreditation

The organizer of the course will apply for European CME accreditation through EACCME.
