ESCMID ECDC Observerships

2 - 6 September 2013, Stockholm, Sweden

Report 2013

In September 2013, for the first time, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) hosted five ESCMID members as part of a new Observership in Public Health. These mid-career health professionals have diverse interests in the areas of clinical microbiology, infectious diseases and public health. During their four-day stay at ECDC they met with ECDC staff and learned about the mission and activities of the Centre. The Observers became acquainted with European-level surveillance and epidemic intelligence work, different disease programmes and networks as well as the Centre’s public health microbiology and molecular surveillance activities. The ESCMID Observers also met with fellows from the European Public Health Microbiology (EUPHEM) training programme. The positive evaluation received encouraged ESCMID and ECDC to offer ten ESCMID members the opportunity to visit ECDC in September 2014.

Individual reports from Observers are accessible from the ECDC Collaborative Centre webpage.
