Travel grants for training in foreign institutions

To cover travel costs of young scientists who are abroad for a brief training period. This award has been integrated into the ESCMID Observerships. Please see the Observerships for more information.

Purpose

This ongoing programme supports travel expenses of young graduate European scientists or physicians working in the field of clinical microbiology and/or infectious diseases.

Funding

Financial support is available to help cover travel costs for training in Europe (EUR 600) or outside Europe (EUR 1'000). The hosting institution must be located outside of the applicant's country of residence.

Eligibility criteria

Applicants must be ESCMID members in good standing and should be born on or after 1 January 1970. Training may take place in a research laboratory, a clinical department or a public health institution. For members from outside Europe, training must be carried out in Europe. For European members it may be carried out anywhere.

Members of the ESCMID Executive Committee are ineligible.

What you need to apply

When submitting online, please have the following documentation ready.

  • PDF-Document (Surname.pdf max 4MB) with: application providing justification for the intended training; details on the training programme (research plan, training topics); CV; list of publications
  • Scanned files (Surname_confirmation.pdf max 4MB of confirmation letter on original letterhead duly signed by the head of the unit where the training is to take place.
  • A colour photograph as (Surname_Firstname.tiff, .eps or .jpg max 4MB) file at least 4 x 6 cm with 300 dpi resolution for pubication

Report

The names of successful applicants and places of foreign training will be published in the ESCMID Yearbook and on the ESCMID website.

The grantee must submit a two-page report to ESCMID upon completion of the training. This report should include a brief description of the goals, techniques learned and success of the visit. Funding will be transferred after receipt of the report.
