2019 TAE Awards for Training Achievements


The TAE Award for Training Achievements is intended to recognize and reward outstanding trainees in clinical microbiology and infectious diseases.


The TAE Award for Training Achievements will be presented during the 29th ECCMID in Amsterdam and includes:

  • A non-restricted prize money of EUR 1,500
  • ECCMID 2019 travel and registration
  • Summer School 2019 registration and accommodation

Reimbursement of registration fee and travel expenses will take place after the event upon proof of attendance and proof of expenses paid, e.g. boarding cards, tickets, receipts and registration fees.

We will select a maximum of two awardees, one in clinical microbiology and one in infectious disease specialties. The awardees will be honored during ECCMID at the TAE Trainees Day and the Young Scientists reception.

Eligibility criteria

  • Candidates must be nominated by someone who is familiar with his/her work, e.g. a superior, staff member or head of department. Self applications will not be considered.
  • The nominee must be an ESCMID member in good standing and should be an ESCMID Young Scientist Member (under 35-years-of-age or under 40 years-of-age if still in training).
  • The nominee must be registered in an accredited training programme which leads to specialisation in clinical/medical microbiology, infectious diseases or other closely related specialties/subspecialties (proof of training status is necessary). A list of closely related specialities/subspecialties can be found in Appendix 2.
  • Nominees for the award must be half or full-time trainees. Full time PhD students and consultant re-training in CM or ID are ineligible.
  • Members of the ESCMID Executive Committee and TAE Steering Committee are ineligible.

What you need for the nomination

All documentation is to be submitted electronically (no hard copies required). When submitting, please have the following documentation ready and make sure you have uploaded the correct documents. You cannot make any changes to any part of your nomination once the deadline has expired.

  • One pdf file including:

    • 1) CV (concise with a focus on aspects relevant to the selection criteria, preferably not more than five pages in total, and definitely not exceeding ten pages;
    • 2) Proof of the nominee's age;
    • 3) Proof of training status;
    • 4) Brief text describing the candidate, her/his personal education and career, her/his professional interests and personal contributions to the various training projects/training-cooperation she or he has been participating in (see above selection criteria) of a maximum of 150 words.

  • Two letters of support from individuals (one from inside and one from outside the nominating institution)
  • Optional: A colour photograph in print quality (at least 4 x 6 cm with 300 dpi resolution) 

Selection criteria

Candidates will be selected based on the fulfilment of one or more of the following criteria:

  • Constant improvement of their personal education, including courses outside the (standard) curriculum
  • Spending a period of their training in another country (international education)
  • Participation in project(s) for the improvement of educational training programmes within their discipline locally, nationally or internationally
  • Involvement in project(s) focused on collaboration between different disciplines for educational purposes
  • Education of peers is ranked higher than personal educational activities and number of publications in peer-reviewed journals

Nomination procedure

Nominees for 2019 will be accepted until 11 October 2018, 12.00h CET. Only online submissions are accepted.

The TAE Steering Committee will select the awardees who will be notified of the decision by the end of January 2019 at the latest. Please refrain from inquiring on the status of your nomination before this date.
