Márcia Boura

She finished her Biochemical degree in 2009 at the New University of Lisbon in Portugal. During her degree she developed a special interest in the field of infectious diseases especially in the interaction between pathogens and the host’s immune system. She chose this same subject for her further studies (Msc). During her Masters she studied if the ingestion of malaria pigment (hemozoin) by phagocytes had some influence in their function, in particular the subsequent phagocytosis and killing of bacteria using Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium as model. This thesis was performed at the Institute of Molecular Medicine - Lisbon Medical School, Lisbon, Portugal under the supervision of Thomas Hänscheid. She is currently very interested in continuing her research education by doing a PhD in the same field.
