Scientific Affairs

ESCMID highlights WHO's 'Antimicrobial resistance: global report on surveillance 2014'

The report summarises resistance occurring across many different infectious agents and focuses on antibiotic resistance in seven different bacteria responsible for common, serious diseases such as bloodstream infections (sepsis), diarrhoea, pneumonia, urinary tract infections and gonorrhoea. Results are cause for great concern, documenting resistance to antibiotics, especially 'last resort' antibiotics, in all regions of the world. ESCMID's activities in this field are summarised on our Fighting Resistance website.
