ESCMID President, Gunnar Kahlmeter receives BSAC's 2014 Garrod Medal

On Thursday 20 March, Gunnar Kahlmeter gave his award speech at BSAC's annual spring meeting. This honour is given to individuals who are an international authority in the field of antimicrobial chemotherapy.

Assembly of Members 2014

The invitation and agenda for the upcoming Assembly of Members is now available. On Monday, 12 May 2014, 18:30 h – 20:00 important topics will be presented and decisions made. The Executive Committee invites you to get involved. To attend you need to be an ESCMID member!

ECCMID 2014 in Barcelona stands to break all previous records

With a record number of 4500 abstracts being submitted from over 100 countries, ECCMID 2014 looks set to break previous records for both global attendance and scientific content.

2014 online course in biofilms!

In fall 2014 ESGB is offering the next online course: 'Bacterial Biofilms and Their Role in Chronic Diseases' in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen. The course can be followed by Masters and PhD students as well as professionals that meet the admission criteria. Application deadline is in June 2014.

Early-career scientists head north to the 2014 ESCMID Summer School

This year this ever-popular event is in Sigtuna, Sweden, from 5 – 12 July 2014. Gain valuable knowledge in CM and ID - meet experts - network with and learn from colleagues from all over the world! Registrations and grant applications are accepted until 9 May 2014.

ESCMID teams up with CMA, ISID and The Lancet Infectious Diseases in Beijing, China

The International Conference on Infections and their Prevention will be held on 19-20 September 2014. All those interested in this area will find a wide range of topics such as care bundles in infection control, rapid diagnosis, vaccines and much more.

¡Hola! trainees - share your knowledge with peers and seniors!

Back by popular demand at the 2014 ECCMID in Barcelona, this 4th edition of the Trainees Day covers the following topics: STDs, the silent threat of bioterrorism, challenges of outbreak detection and response, sepsis from CM and ID perspective. Time & place: 10 May 2014, 13.30-16.45, Room 133/134.

More funding for intercontinental Observership visits

In response to our increasing number of international Collaborative Centres, we have updated our funding rules. New reimbursement rules for intercontinental Observerships are effective from 11 March 2014.

Research Technician - Microbiology

This full-time temporary position in the UK includes screening of anti-RSV and anti-Aspergillus compounds, biomarker analysis and daily lab maintenance.
Successful candidates will be working on the following research project: Discovery of novel anti-fungus or anti-RSV medicine.

ESGAP's new website - Antimicrobial Stewardship Open Virtual Learning Community

This AS-OVLC is an open-access web-based resource that has been created to provide information and tools to foster antimicrobial stewardship among healthcare professionals.

Your comments, constructive feedback and your participation in the ongoing surveys and debates are encouraged. Our aim is to provide you with a useful site for your daily practice within an antimicrobial stewardship program or as an Infectious Disease physician.

ESCMID supports WHO's global campaign SAVE LIVES: Clean Your Hands

For 5 May 2014, WHO asks you to join in highlighting the role of hand hygiene in combatting antimicrobial resistance (AMR). WHO invites you to participate in two global surveys and in many other actions. Find out more on our Fighting Resistance page or on the WHO campaign website.
