A new meta-analysis of published studies into the drug hydroxychloroquine shows that is does not lower mortality in COVID-19 patients, and using it combined with the antibiotic azithromycin is associated with a 27% increased mortality. The study is published in Clinical Microbiology and Infection, the official journal of the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID).

ESCMID Conference on Coronavirus Disease (ECCVID) – Emerging threats, emerging solutions

ESCMID is very pleased to announce that it will be hosting the first virtual congress specifically dedicated to COVID-19. The ESCMID Conference on Coronavirus Disease (ECCVID) will take place online from Wednesday 23rd to Friday 25th September 2020, and will cover all aspects of COVID-19.


The conference will host multiple tracks and a dedicated Programme Committee will work to secure a full and comprehensive scientific programme to cover a range of topics surrounding this emerging threat. More information will follow as the conference draws nearer.

European Congress of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ECCMID) 2020

The 30th ECCMID that was cancelled this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Over 6000 abstracts were submitted and the accepted abstracts were put together into an abstract book.
