Nine ESCMID members successfully completed an observership at the WHO

Katherina Zakikhany, Miriam Josť Alvarez Martinez, Garyfallia Kavarnou, Nicola Cocco, Michel Vaillant, Heimo Lagler and Sophie Newitt from Europe as well as Suzi McCarthy and Sumit Kumar Rawat from outside Europe successfully completed their observerships at the World Health Organization’s regional office for Europe in Copenhagen.

ESCMID, ASM jointly sponsor conference on methicillin-resistant staph in animals

ESCMID is a co-organizer of the 4th ASM-ESCMID Conference on Methicillin-resistant Staphylococci in Animals: Veterinary and Public Health Implications that takes place from 2 – 5 November in Chicago, USA. The conference is sponsored jointly by ESCMID and the American Society for Microbiology. With sessions on the epidemiology of livestock-associated MRSA (LA-MRSA); the epidemiology of MRSA and MRSP in companion animals; genomics; prevention and control of LA-MRSA in healthcare facilities, in the community and on farms; treatment and control of MRSA and MRSP in companion animals; and, diagnostic testing, this conference will be relevant to individuals in the medical, veterinary, public health and associated research fields.

EFISG supports a clinical mycology course organized by the Institut Pasteur

The ESCMID Fungal Infection Study Group EFISG is supporting a four-week mycology course for microbiologists (MD, PhD, VetD) practicing mycology in hospital laboratories that takes place from 21 March - 15 April 2016. The course organizers aim to give an update on the most recent advances in diagnosis and identification procedures and principles of therapy for fungal infections. EFISG recommends this course because it is a unique opportunity to enrol in a comprehensive course on medical mycology. Applications are accepted until 1 November 2015.
