The grant deadline for the postgraduate education course in Verona is 27 July

The course entitled Carbapenemases in Enterobacteriaceae: Challenges and Preparedness takes place from 24-25 September in Verona, Italy. The course will debate how to effectively detect carbapenemases in routine testing and how to report their presence to clinicians. Guidelines for appropriate infection control and basic options for clinical treatment are also part of the course. Lectures will be followed by practical demonstrations of the main diagnostic techniques. The course provides participants with the basic, integrated elements necessary for understanding the nature of carbapenemases, as well as the need for correct identification and reporting.

ECCs share expertise and provide observers with valuable experience

ESCMID Collaborative Centres are located throughout the world and cover a broad range of specialties. For instance, if you are interested in broadening your knowledge in infection control and epidemiology, you may consider visiting that department of the Edouard Herriot Hospital under the charge of Prof. Philippe Vanhems. It is a component of the department of Infection Control, Epidemiology and Prevention of the Lyon University Hospital. The main missions are directed towards surveillance of nosocomial infections, development of technical procedures and practical recommendations to reduce the risks of hospital acquired infections, continuous improvement of the quality of care, participation in the institutional management of the risks and clinical research on infectious diseases. The unit is involved in a broad range of projects: surveillance of various infections in different units, outbreak investigations, audits, training, clinical research and hence the observership offers an excellent opportunity to interact with various departments in various specialties. The department is also part of several international collaborations.
