News & Activities

ESGAP is launching the AntibioLegalMap survey, and we would be very grateful if you could participate.

We aim to explore the following topics, in order to get an international picture and to raise awareness on these issues:

  • How are consultations performed by antibiotic experts organised in different countries?
  • What is the legal liability (=responsibility) associated with antibiotic prescribing and advising?
  • How might this liability impact on clinical decisions?

The survey is intended for senior specialists (i.e. completed training in a specialty) in Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology worldwide, provided that these professionals regularly give advice on antibiotic prescriptions, and/or are antibiotic prescribers themselves.

The questionnaire will take around 10 minutes. It is strictly anonymous. Click here to go to the questionnaire and complete before end of August 2016.

Do not hesitate to inform your colleagues who might be interested in participating in this survey.

We thank you very much for your help.

- Prof. Céline Pulcini and Prof. Bojana Beović, on behalf of the ESGAP AntibioLegalMap scientific committee

EUCIC, ESGAP, EUCAST conduct antibiotic susceptibility testing survey

The three groups will start conducting a European survey this week to explore in which countries selective reporting of antibiotic susceptibility testing results has been already implemented on a large scale (regional, national) and how it has been organized. For this purpose, a questionnaire survey will be sent out to national contacts in the first week of December. We look forward to active participation of the national representatives.

Infectious diseases - clinical microbiology - infection control staffing survey in hospitals

In an attempt to define standard personnel to hospital bed ratio we designed the current survey. Hospitals will be de-identified for the analysis and reporting.

Thank you for having taken part in this survey. We are currently analyzing the accumulated data to be published soon.

and then you can join ESGAP through the above link.

ESGAP is an active ESCMID study group that promotes  awareness and learning about antimicrobial stewardship through educational activity such as pre-ECCMID postgraduate courses, support of regional meetings and now soon through a new website that aims to provide a virtual learning community for health care professional interested in stewardship.

We hope you will take a small amount of time to either rejoin our group [welcome back] and to new members you are most welcome to join us. Please also communicate this message to interested colleagues and where relevant, please contact other colleagues through your local, regional or national organization contacts.

We are keen to involve all of you in a range of educational and research activities around the important topic of stewardship.

On behalf of the ESGAP executive committee I very much look forward to you joining us.

Worldwide Antimicrobial Stewardship Survey

Investigators from ESGAP (ESCMID Study Group for Antibiotic Policies) in conjunction with the ISC (International Society for Chemotherapy) Antimicrobial Stewardship Working Group have developed an international survey of antimicrobial stewardship activity and capability.

The survey is based on previous national surveys from around the world, and has been piloted and refined across all five continents.  The results will be presented at international meetings and data will be available here soon to allow continental, national and local benchmarking of antimicrobial stewardship programmes.

Colistin Global Survey

The ESGAP Executive Committee supported and recommended the following survey (closed end of 2011):

Dear ESGAP members:

Severe multi-drug resistant Gram-negative infections are becoming more common worldwide. These bacteria are often still sensitive to the older antibiotics colistin or polymyxin B. These drugs are now being used more commonly. Unfortunately, little is known about how these drugs are dosed optimally and with what other drugs to combine them.

Dr Heiman Wertheim - from Oxford University, Hanoi, Viet Nam, one very active member of our ISC Antimicrobial Stewardship working group (ISC ABS WG) -, has organized - in collaboration with ReAct, GARP and the ISC ABS WG - an international survey to know more about colistin and polymixin B utilisation. We are now inviting ESGAP to be an active collaborator to keep on with this global initiative.

Taking into account the high impact of MDR Gram-negative rods, and that these drugs are in a great majority of cases the only option for treatment, we would really appreciate both your participation and your collaboration in disseminating this global survey.

For questions or comments, please contact Dr Heiman Wertheim, University of Oxford

Cheers

ABC-Calc 2011: A new version of ABC-Calc has been developed and is being piloted before it is finally launched.

This version is a completely new implementation of the tool. It has been transformed into a standalone application (it is not any more a excel file). The new functionalities are the possibility to read an excel file in input, in addition to enter data manually and to export the results into an excel file. The scope of the antimicrobials managed by ABC-Calc has been extended to, notably, antimycotics and antivirals. The tool is developed in java and is multi platform.
We invite ESGAP members to test the new version.

Please contact Arno Muller and he will e-mail instructions to download and use the new version.

  • 9 May, 18.15-19.15 (Room Amber 2)
    EFISG Business Meeting
All interested persons are cordially invited to join the meeting and plan future ESGAP activities.
