This report describes the resistance data from five countries in the WHO European Region gathered through the Central Asian and Eastern European Surveillance of Antimicrobial Resistance (CAESAR) network, in which ESGARS participates. It aims to provide guidance and inspiration to countries that are building or strengthening their national systems for antimicrobial resistance surveillance and to stimulate the international sharing of data. WHO and its partners remain committed to supporting countries in these endeavours through the activities of the CAESAR network.

Research Project

Retrieval of antimicrobial susceptibility data from invasive infections, urinary tract infections and lower respiratory tract infections - a pilot project involving Turkey and Israel. The project received funding by ESCMID (EUR 30'000) in 2011. The research project resulted in the establishment of the CAESAR (Central Asian and Eastern European Surveillance of Antimicrobial Resistance) network, a collaboration between ESCMID, WHO Europe and The Public Health Institute of The Netherlands (RIVM). The CAESAR network is a sister network of EARS-Net, and is presently collecting data from several countries in the target area.
