Nominations for the TAE Steering Committee open this Friday

In 2018 we are looking for new Trainee Association of ESCMID Steering Committee members with a background in Clinical Microbiology. The vacancies are for a three-year term starting in January 2019 and are to be filled with new members who will be elected in Autumn 2018. You can view the criteria here. The nomination platform will open this Friday (6 July) and remain open until 17 September. Don`t miss this chance to be a part of a dynamic and international team of young scientists!

CMI Highlight: Four-year safety follow-up of the tetravalent dengue vaccine efficacy randomized controlled trials in Asia and Latin America

A recombinant, live, attenuated, tetravalent dengue vaccine (CYD-TDV) was previously shown efiicient against virologically confirmed dengue (VCD). In this study, Arredondo-García and colleagues performed a long-term follow-up to monitor the incidence of VCD-hospitalization and severe VCD-hospitalization in five Asian-Pacific countries, five Latin American countries and in Thailand. Overall analyses including participants of all ages showed a reduction in the number of hospitalized VCD cases in vaccinated participants.

ESCMID/ASM Conference Update

We are preparing for the ‘Conference on Drug Development to Meet the Challenge of Antimicrobial Resistance’ with our colleagues from the American Society of Microbiology, to be held in Lisbon this September.

We are currently collating the abstract program, having received close to 150 abstracts from 44 countries (top submitters were USA, UK, Nigeria and Turkey).

Grant applications open for Cuba 2018

ESCMID is offering 10 grants to cover the cost of registration for deserving applicants for the course 'Conference on Antimicrobial Resistance: From Bench to Practice'. To apply, please write 100 words or less describing why it would be beneficial for you to attend the conference with the support of the ESCMID grant. After the selection process has been completed, applicants showing the ability to be in Havana at the time of the conference will have their registration fee paid for by ESCMID. Entries may be directed to Carla Seiler: cubaconf2018@escmid.org
