ECCMID 2019 wraps up in Amsterdam

The 29th European Congress of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ECCMID) was held in Amsterdam from Saturday,13 April until Tuesday, 16 April 2019.

The congress broke all previous records, with over 13,000 participants from 130 countries coming together to attend what is now the world’s largest conference in the field of infection.

The 30th ECCMID will be held in Paris, France from 18-21 April, 2020.

Due to extra demand at ECCMID, the registration deadlines for the upcoming ESCMID Postgraduate Education Courses in May has been extended!

‘Emerging infections for clinicians and the WHO Emerging Diseases Clinical Assessment and Response Network’, to be held in Florence, Italy, and ‘Phenotypic and Molecular approaches for Detection and Control of Carbapenem- and Colistin-resistant Gram-negatives’, to be held in Volos, Greece, are open for registration until 31 April 2019.

ESCMID-ECMM guideline Public Consultation Phase

The draft version of the "ESCMID-ECMM guideline: diagnosis and management of invasive aspergillosis in neonates and children." has now entered into the public consultation phase. The guideline is a result of the concerted efforts of experts across Europe.

Those of you wishing to comment on the manuscript may write to the ESCMID Publications and Medical Guidelines Manager to request the (confidential) draft of the manuscript along with the comments form for listing feedback.

We are happy to receive your feedback and comments on the manuscript until 30th April 2019.

Please be aware that your comments and the authors’ responses to the comments will be made available online once the guideline is published.

CMI Highlight: Monitoring Your institution: the WHO Hand Hygiene self-assessment Framework - is it worth it?

In this article, Tartari et al. discuss the appropriateness of the WHO Hand Hygiene self-assessment Framework.

This year, the World Health Organization is launching a global survey with self-assessment tools in Infection Prevention and Control and Hand Hygiene. Despite evidence for the effectiveness of hand-hygiene, HCWs’ compliance is unacceptably low. It is important to understand the relevance of these tools and their value to institutions and health systems.

10th International RMHS Summer Course – Grants available!

The 10th International Summer Course on Research Methodology and Ethics in Health Sciences will be held in Istanbul, Turkey, from 17-28 June 2019. More information can be found on the Course Website. ESCMID Members can apply for an attendance grant on the ESCMID grant application website.

Applications are open until 23 May, 2019.
