About Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik, nestled between the Adriatic Sea and the Dinaric Alps, is easy to explore, inexpensive and hence a popular city destination. One of the best-known Croatian tourist sites, the fortified city of Dubrovnik with its Renaissance culture, will not fail to impress you especially with the beauty of its old town. With a population of under 43,000, the city is small enough to be discovered on foot.  Taking a walk around the spectacular city walls, the finest in the world and the city's main claim to fame, is a must-do. From the top, the view over the old town and the shimmering Adriatic is magnificent.

The prosperity of the city was historically based on maritime trade; as the capital of the maritime Republic of Ragusa, it achieved a high level of development, particularly during the 15th and 16th centuries, as it became notable for its wealth and skilled diplomacy.  In 1979, the city of Dubrovnik joined the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites.
