Call for nominations for EC election 2013

At the end of 2013 elections will be held among the membership to fill one vacant position in the ESCMID Executive Committee. To be elected is one infectious diseases specialist. The Nomination Subcommittee would like to encourage you to propose candidates, taking into consideration their professional excellence, leadership abilities, communication skills and contributions to the activities of ESCMID.

ESGVH HBV Survey & other viral hepatitis news

This survey aims to detect the controversies and gaps in accessing diagnosis, treatment and management of HBV. Society soliciting nominations for Excellence and Young Investigator Awards

We celebrate the efforts of those who work to advance the fields of CM and ID through our awards programme. The Excellence Award is the highest honour given by ESCMID and is awarded to an individual who has made great contributions to the fields of CM/ID. The Young Investigator Awards recognizes the achievements of up to two persons under 40 years of age. Submission deadline: 12 November 2013. about Excellence Award; about Young Investigator Award

Apply now for TAE Award for Training Achievements!

If you are still in specialty training and 35 years-of-age or younger, consider applying! The award includes free registration for any ESCMID 2014 educational activity up to a maximum value of EUR 1'000. Remaining funds may be used for a journal subscription. Additionally up to EUR 500 will be reimbursed for travel expenses to the educational event.

First ESCMID-WHO Observerships successful!

On June 18-20, the first ESCMID-WHO Observership took place at the Division of Communicable Diseases, Health Security and Environment (DCE) of the WHO Regional Office for Europe. During the 3 day Observership, 4 participants were introduced to WHO activities and programmes.

This year's Summer School was again a hot event covering diverse topics in CM/ID as well as career advice.

The technical workshop takes place from 26-30 August 2013 in Villars-sur-Ollon. Register by 15 August to secure your place! A special focus is on Coxiella, Bartonella, Ehrlichia, Rickettsia, Chlamydia and Tropheryma whipplei.

Coming in November - the ESCMID conference “Escherichia coli: an old friend with new tidings”!!!

Barcelona, Spain: 20-22 November 2013
Participants attending this workshop will learn about the pathogenesis, clinical aspects and treatment of the infections caused by Escherichia coli. In addition, an update on the current mechanisms of resistance to different antimicrobial agents and the transference of resistant determinants in E. coli will be presented.

ESCMID and Wiley Blackwell are delighted to announce the launch of New Microbes and New Infections. NMNI is an Open Access journal with a focus on new genomes, new microbes, and new technology applied to the diagnosis of infectious and tropical diseases.
