ESCMID newsletter

March 2012

Dear Colleague,
The hectic days in London are fast approaching and we are almost ready to welcome you  to ECCMID 2012. This month’s newsletter is meant to offer highlights of our main annual event and other interesting ESCMID activities  lined-up in the coming months. The ESCMID Manual of Microbiology has just been published, and many copies are being flown out to London while the ECCMID mobile application is being implemented with the new ECCMID social media profiles. St. George’s Day in late April will be celebrated with the ESCMID Antibiotic Days Conference, also held in London. Registration for the TROCAR/ESCMID Conference in Barcelona is open, and we welcome applications for attendance grants from our younger members. Finally, whether you are a trainee or not, aren’t you eager to find out the results of the TAE Steering Committee election? We shall reveal the results further on in this newsletter.

22nd ECCMID - Event of the year 2012

Ready for the ECCMID four-day marathon in London?

The ESCMID team will be the first to reach the ExCel Centre in London in  order to make sure that everything is geared up for your arrival at ECCMID 2012. In the meantime we want to highlight two novel events:

  • Tuesday, 3 April 2012, Late-breaker round table and open discussion: Flu, mutations and transmission: to publish or not to publish? Discuss personally with Albert Osterhaus, Ron Fouchier, Yoshihiro Kawaoka and colleagues their recent research findings on influenza virus mutations and the implications for public health.

Manual of Microbiology available at ECCMID

Fifty-two chapters prepared by over 100 authors and editors have recently been published in hardcover. Grab your copy: it’s available at ECCMID in less than 20 days. The manual covers the main areas of microbiology and represents the most up-to-date knowledge in the field in Europe.

Social media and mobile application at ECCMID

We are glad to inform you that one of this year’s news at ECCMID will be a mobile application including updates from the ECCMID profiles on Twitter and Facebook. Our press office will also cover the social media, providing information and answering your questions before, during and after the congress.
As interaction is crucial  for ESCMID, the year 2012 marks an important milestone in communication at ECCMID, too, as we are able to provide a direct and privileged communication channel to ECCMID participants.

ECCMID is on Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Linkedin events.
