Dear Member of an Affiliated Society,
Summer is well on the way here for ESCMID staff and committees, but there are no lazy days for us!  Between now and September it's planning-scientifc-and-educational-events-for-2012 season. The ECCMID 2012 Programme Committee has just met to set the programme in London, and the Educational Subcommittee is planning the courses for 2012. This edition includes our usual mix of society news. Enjoy the newsletter.

The Alliance for the Prudent Use of Antibiotics (APUA), has sent its congratulations and official notification that Prof. Cornaglia has been selected as representative of the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID) to receive the 2011 APUA Leadership award.
This annual award recognizes extraordinary leadership from individuals and scientific or clinical organizations to ensure appropriate antibiotic use in order to maintain treatment effectiveness.
This leadership award will be presented at APUA’s 30th anniversary celebration and reception at the annual meeting of Interscience Conference Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy (ICAAC), on September 18th, 2011 in Chicago, IL from 6-8pm.

ECCMID/ICC 2011 in Milan - pictures & presentations online

The ECCMID-ICC 2011 was a great success with the largest number of participants in the more than 25 year history - 8231. Not suprisingly the most delegates came from Italy followed by Spain and the UK. A photo gallery is now online as well as 157 webcasts free-of-charge to ESCMID members.

New! ESGB online course

In the fall of 2011 a brand new online course is offered: 'Bacterial Biofilms and Their Role in Chronic Diseases'. The course can be followed by Masters and PhD students as well as professionals that meet the admission criteria. Application deadline is 8 August 2011.

Study Groups

Scientific Affairs stratified into Sections and Themes

Study Group activities will be overseen and stimulated by Scientific Affairs Subcommittee members with individual responsibility for a Section or Theme. In this way, ESCMID's scientific activity is devolved to a larger group of experts and members of the society, and lead hopefully to an expansion of activivites in areas that have previously been less strong.
