ESCMID awardees have been selected for 2011

ESCMID proudly presents the 2011 recipients of the Excellence Award, Young Investigator Awards, TAE Training Excellence Awards, Research Grants and Training Fellowships.



ESCMID Conference on the Impact of Vaccines on Public Health and 4th International Day for Fighting Infection

The programme for the Prague Conference from 1-3 April 2011 on the Impact of Vaccines on Public Health is now online. This year the St. George Day covering the history of vaccination will be included on the final conference day. The event is supported by the Lancet Infectious Diseases and organised in cooperation with ERS, ESPID, GCACMID, IDSA, ISC, and ISID.


Influenza news

New season, same influenza?

ECDC's "Spotlight: Seasonal influenza" looks at the most recent analyses concerning the influenza virus, weighs up the burden of the disease, and reinforces previous evidence-based guidance relating to prevention.

PRESS RELEASE: Impact of flu vaccine opt-out is being seen as A(H1N1) returns to Europe

As the UK and a number of other European countries are now experiencing epidemics of influenza, including A(H1N1), which was the 2009 pandemic virus, ESCMID warns that the consequences of non-vaccination could emerge as a new flu emergency and are calling for greater efforts to encourage vaccination, not only for at-risk groups, but also health care workers.

It was sponsored by the U.S. government and hosted by the National Science Advisory Board for Biosecurity (NSABB), in partnership with ESCMID, the European Molecular Biology Organization, the European Science Foundation, and the Pasteur Institute.

Changes at the ESCMID Executive Office

Peter Cologna who has been the ESCMID Managing Director since 2008 is leaving the Society. The Executive Committee would like to thank him for his commitment and wish him well for his professional and private future.
