Aims and objectives

The ESCMID Study Group for Staphylococci and Staphylococcal Diseases (ESGS) focuses on the challenges posed by Staphylococcus aureus, one of the most frequent bacterial pathogens in both community and healthcare settings. With staphylococcal infections on the rise, we are committed more than ever to understanding S. aureus complex pathogenesis and interactions with human hosts. Our common mission is focused on: 

• Coordinating pioneering fundamental and applied research across Europe in this vital area
• Fostering collaboration among microbiologists, clinicians, and researchers to tackle key clinical questions, thereby turning research breakthroughs into clinical applications
• Developing comprehensive guidelines to improve the diagnosis, clinical management, and prevention of staphylococcal colonisation and infection
• Supporting educational initiatives at both Master's and PhD levels, cultivating the next generation of experts in this field
• Strengthening our network of researchers to enhance the visibility and impact of the staphylococcal research community
