Aims and objectives

As one of the earliest Study Groups, The ESCMID Study Group for Antimicrobial Stewardship (ESGAP) has been at the forefront of promoting education and research on the topic of antimicrobial stewardship since its founding in 1999. The link between antibiotic use and resistance is clear and reversal of resistance problems pushes ESGAP onwards in its aims to:

  • Change the patterns of antibiotic use
  • Address the tremendous variations in standards for antibiotic prescriptions
  • Reduce the use of unnecessary antibiotics
  • Share knowledge and expertise on this topic with prescribers, clinicians, researchers and the general public.
