Mission & Objectives
Objectives of the SG
Objectives are to improve the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of infection due to mycobacteria, including tuberculosis, leprosy and infections due to non-tuberculous mycobacteria. This will be achieved by promoting and supporting research, education, training, and good medical and microbiological practice.
Possible complementarity to existing SGs
- ESGARS: joint recommendations for surveillance and detection of resistance to antituberculous drugs in tuberculosis, and also recommendations for surveillance of antibiotic resistance in infections due to non-tuberculous mycobacteria (e.g. clarithromycin in M. avium infections, rifampicin in M. kansasii…)
- ESGEM: joint meeting on performances of molecular markers for Mycobacterium tuberculosis and also non-tuberculous mycobacteria
- ESGMD: Joint workshop or educational course on molecular diagnosis in tuberculosis and leprosy
- ESGICH: Joint symposium on mycobacterial infections in immunocompromised hosts
- EMESG: guidelines for diagnosis and treatment of tuberculous meningitis
- ESGNI: joint research project of nsosocomial infections due to NTM
- ESGB: joint fundamental research on NTM growth in biofilms
- EFWISG: joint research project or symposium on prevalence of NTM in water sources
