Mission & Objectives

1. Study all aspects of the use of molecular techniques for the diagnosis of infectious diseases.
2. Extend knowledge on technical aspects and to share it among laboratories working with commercial and non-commercial test systems. This may include specimen work up, contamination control, detection formats, etc.
3. Develop joint projects especially in areas where individual laboratories/clinics do not have access to a sufficient number of patients.
4. Make the information available on where special tests for rare diseases are being performed.
5. Promote good laboratory practice.
6. Promote acceptance of molecular diagnostics a standard practice where appropriate.

To achieve these goals it is essential that clinicians (mainly ID specialists), microbiologists and representatives of the industry from different countries actively participate in ESGMD.
