News from the last ESGLI Business Meeting

The first ESGLI Business Meeting was held during the ECCMID in London on 3 April 2012.

We were more than 30 participants; among other things we discussed how to become member of the Study Group and how to become candidate for the Executive Committee.

On this basis we have prepared two forms (see boxes in right column); both should be returned before end of May 2012.

To become a regular member and have the right to vote at the ESGLI Meeting in Dresden, Germany, 5 – 7 September 2012, the application form for the ESGLI membership (see box in right column) should be completed and sent to   before 31 May 2012.

If you would like to be a candidate for the Executive Committee (six members) of ESGLI, please send the application form (see box in right column) to . The application for the Executive Committee should take the form of a statement about yourself and your work in the field of legionellosis in a maximum 150 words. The application must be signed by two ESGLI members who support your candidacy. The application must be sent before 31 May 2012. To become a member of the Executive Committee it is necessary to be a member of ESCMID.

According to the statutes for the Study Group it is also possible to become corporate member of ESGLI. Please contact one of the members of the Executive Committee (ad interim), if your company or organisation would like to become corporate member of ESGLI.

New ESCMID Study Group

ESGLI is a newly formed ESCMID Study Group, which has started its activities in the field of Legionella infections. The constitutional meeting will be held at ECCMID 2012 in London, UK, Tuesday, 3 April, 11.00-14.00, Meeting Room 13/14.

Meeting agenda

The kick-off meeting to discuss future activities is scheduled for September 2012 in Dresden, DE.

Historically, ESGLI is a continuation of the highly active EWGLI group (European Working Group for Legionella Infections) with continuous support from ESCMID.

Planned Activities

  • In 2012 as well as 2013 a scientific meeting will be organised. Ideally, these meetings will take place in the same period and at the same venue as the yearly European Legionnaires Disease Surveillance Network (ELDSNet) meetings. The latter are organised by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC). The 2012 Meeting will be held in Dresden, Germany, 4 -7 September 2012.
  • A collaborative study on the quality of urinary antigen assays will be undertaken and published.
