Planned Activities

  • Meetings: It is the plan to organise annual scientific meetings; these meetings will take place in the same period and at the same venue as the yearly European Legionnaires Disease Surveillance Network (ELDSNet) meetings. The latter are organised by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC). In 2013, there will however not be a scientific ESGLI meeting as the 8th International Legionella meeting will be held in Melbourne, Australia (see announcement in the right column). An ESGLI business meeting will be held during the 23rd ECCMID in Berlin in 2013.
  • A collaborative study on the evaluation of a 3-plex qPCR for specific detection of Legionella pneumophila and L. pneumophila serogroupe 1 in clinical and environmental samples has been initiated.
  • A project for establishing better databases for identification of legionellae by MALDI-TOF MS will be undertaken.
  • A group of collaborators will revise and update the ESGLI/EWGLI Technical Guidelines for Control and Prevention of Travel Associated Legionnaires´ Disease.
  • A study on the quality of newer urinary antigen assays for detection of Legionella pneumophila antigen will be undertaken and published.

News from the ESGLI General Assembly 2012

ESGLI Meeting Dresden 2012

The first ESGLI General Assembly was held during the ESGLI meeting in Dresden, Germany, from 5 to 7 September 2012.

Minutes

During the General Assembly on Thursday, 6 September, members voted for the ESGLI Executive Committee (EC). It was also possible to vote by mail (letter). The members had to elect six members for the EC. A Chairperson, a Secretary and a Treasurer were elected among the members of the EC by the EC.

It was possible to vote among 10 candidates.

At the time for the voting, 127 persons had registered as members. Twenty-four voted by mail and 54 voted at the meeting, altogether 78 votes were received.

The following members were elected for the EC, in alphabetic order of country

New ESCMID Study Group

ESGLI is a newly formed ESCMID Study Group, which has started its activities in the field of Legionella infections. The constitutional meeting will be held at ECCMID 2012 in London, UK, Tuesday, 3 April, 11.00-14.00, Meeting Room 13/14.

Meeting agenda

The kick-off meeting to discuss future activities is scheduled for September 2012 in Dresden, DE.

Historically, ESGLI is a continuation of the highly active EWGLI group (European Working Group for Legionella Infections) with continuous support from ESCMID.
